Dave Thompson
Dave Thompson has made a career of
being a guitarist-for-hire. He is the touring and recording guitarist for
Juno-nominated jazz-urban singer Kellylee Evans, and also tours with Juno award
winner Susan Aglukark.
Dave studied jazz composition
(with Herb Pomeroy) and guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and
has worked thousands of gigs in concert halls, festivals, summer resorts,
clubs, musical theatre, radio and TV, as well as on many CDs as a sideman.
Dave has opened for George Benson,
Richard Bona, Chris Botti and others as a member of Kellylee Evans’ group, and
has toured extensively, including concerts in almost every province and
territory Canada (including Nunavut) and in several US states. Some jazz
festivals include Vancouver, Anacortes, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon,
Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto and North Carolina, and folk festivals include
Vancouver, Summerfolk, Edmonton, Vancouver Island and others.
Recent performance experience
includes guitarist for musical theatre productions, including those of Drayton
Entertainment.
Dave teaches privately in his
studio and also as an adjunct professor of music at Heritage College in
Cambridge, Ontario. With years of recording experience, and with his own
“Studio Indigo,” he has played, engineered, produced and arranged on many
releases and demo projects.
Dave credits former bandleader
Kenny Munshaw with much of his early experience and development as a working
musician. His guitar and writing influences include Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, John
Scofield, Alex Lifeson, Duke Ellington, Reg Schwager, Joni Mitchell, Wes
Montgomery, Gil Evans, Sting, George Benson, Lyle Lovett and many more.
